SAWYER'S FIRST BIRTHDAY

It feels like yesterday when we were dropping Owen off at my in-laws, and then heading to labor and delivery for our 6:30AM arrival at the hospital. Then came my 6lb. 2oz. bundle of joy, Sawyer Lane Hale. Last month we had her 1st birthday shindig to celebrate! Typical 2nd child status, it was more of a quaint get together for just family and a few close friends. The party had a southwest vibe because I'm literally obsessed with anything cactus right now!

We had southwest style finger foods like mini tacos, rice and cheese quesadillas. The family is a big fan of cocktails, so we had a bloody mary bar and a "spiked" cactus punch. I took a frozen bag of mixed fruit, Italian soda (you can pick any fruity flavor) and sparkling wine from H.E.B. It was delicious!

For her cake I just wanted to keep it simple, so I ordered an 8-inch naked cake with 3 tiers. H.E.B had it ready in 2 days, and it cost me less than $25. I have to say I was thoroughly impressed with their bakery department. Of course we had to satisfy our cookie craving with some custom cookies for the birthday girl from Hayley's Cakes & Cookies - they're literally amazing!

I found some really cute prints that I framed and will also use in her new big girl room. And who doesn't love a steer skull, this one was a good find from Target! I added the flowers onto felt and hung then from the horns so that they could be removed after the party was over since I think this guy is going in my office.

I ordered a fun cactus garland to go in the dining room that hung under her picture garland. I printed some of my favorite pictures of sissy from her first year and hung them on twine using clothes pins.

The teepee is one of her favorite places to hang out (she's a big fan of hiding and peek-a-boo), so I thought what cuter place than to decorate and take her picture! I found the colorful pillows at World Market, and filled it with some of her favorite dollies from Candy Kirby. I am also re-doing her room, so I asked Marie from Wool & Weave to make this sweet woven wall hanging.

These gorgeous sequin bloomers by Little Willow Tree were a fun mix with her teeny tiny custom cactus t-shirt that Anita from Bird Apparel was so nice and made for us. The succulent flower crown from Little Urban Gem was another custom piece that Sarah totally nailed!

Reed made his yearly slideshow filled with videos, photos, and firsts from the year. It's a new family tradition in our house that started when Owen turned one, and it's definitely what I look forward to from my husband every year. I think it's safe to say Sawyer had so much fun on her 1st birthday surrounded by friends and family.

I love making traditions for our own family to have each year, what are some things your family shares each year?
