I'm an antique junkie, and there's something so special about the antiques you find on the East Coast. The architecture, the details, they're all so different from what you might find in Texas. It literally felt like Heaven on Earth. I wanted to find a lot of one of a kind pieces from these beautiful beach town shops, but also include a lot of DIY projects to make her room that much more special.
One of my favorite pieces in the room just so happened to be in my grandmother's room when she was a child, and that was the chair. After giving it a little love, chalk paint, and a new outfit, she was a show-stopper.
I also chalk painted the bookshelf and antique dresser to match, and adorned them with some gorgeous knobs to tie the two together. The dresser and mirror is literally perfection. After I change Sawyer we now have a daily routine of sitting in front of the mirror and just play. It's fun to watch her take it all in. We found a really neat vintage buoy that fits right in. On the bookshelf I wanted to bring in touches of gold using the classic Little Golden Books, and a fun pineapple candle. Katelyn and I had a blast rummaging through old postcards, saltwater salvaged picture frames, and of course beautiful seashells. We even spent an afternoon on the beach hunting for our own shells to take back, and snapped a few pictures along the way. And if you didn't notice, the infamous dinglehopper did make an appearance.
With my experience with Owen I knew that Sawyer, being a girl, would have many more clothes that he did, so I didn't want to use any of her dresser drawers for diapers. I purchased a fun cart and utilized it as a diaper station. It came in really handy rolling around our bedroom when she was a newborn by our side. Although we have carpet in the room, I wanted a small rug to add some texture, and for baby #OOTD pics of course.
The bedding is a combination of pieces from a custom bedding company and Etsy. If you didn't already know, Hi my name is Summer, and I'm an Etsy-holic. It's amazing what you can find on that site. I had big plans for her gallery wall of course, but after hanging everything else in the room I decided to keep it simple. There was no way I was taking away from the wooden mermaid art, the ombre anchor hooks, or the dreamy dream catcher.
My sister-in-law Allie was so sweet to give me the beautiful tissue tassel and a paddle, and I knew they would pair perfectly together. The DIY trick here was that I actually used small hooks on the underside of the paddle, and a thin wooden dowel from the craft store to hold the curtains up. It turned out quite nice!
I could go on for hours talking about this room, it's our own little sanctuary. I know it was a lengthy post, but It's so magical I couldn't wait to share. Hope you enjoy!
